Wanted: Techs in Support Hell needed to help keep this blog alive!
What is my IP address? My friend showed me this site last nite and while I was blown away by the concept of having something so simple for people to use to find their IP address, I just had to note it here... The thought occured to me at the time that there are no links on this page at all. Even tho they say on the page about WhatIsMyIP.com
It is also a great source for
information about the internet and
for tutorials on networking and computers.
There are no links to that information and they have supposedly been working on it for the last 3 years! The cooler thing about this site is that they have not even one banner ad. Nothing. Nada. That means it is a dead end on the Internet. Tons of people, including me, link to it, but it does not go anywhere from there. I would be interested in seeing how many dead-ends Google has come across over the years, and I would suspect that the number is actually declining...
Important thing to note with this site is that the IP address you see is the one that the rest of the Internet sees. If you are behind a router/firewall/proxy, your IP address will not be accrately reflected by this page. Your best bet to see what IP you really have is still using the Run window (Start>Run) and typing 'winipcfg' (Win 95/98/ME) or 'cmd' to get to the DOS prompt in 2K and XP. Once there (DOS Prompt that is) type in 'ipconfig' and out comes your IP address. On a Mac (OS 8.x-9.x), you can see it in the TCP/IP control panel and in OS X and higher it is in the Network Control Panel in the System Prefs.... Linux, Unix, Amiga, you are on your own....
